Universal Plant Services in Deer Park, Texas, a leading provider in rotating equipment services is seeking a Shop Manager with strong mechanical background, project management and experience managing a team of qualified mechanics, technicians and machinists. The qualified candidate must possess experience with overhauling and repairing turbines (gas or steam), compressors, and pumps.
Please Note: Relocation assistance and per diem are not provided for this position. Candidates must currently reside within the Houston region area to be considered.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Strictly adhere to all Safety policies and procedures.
- Strictly enforce all Safety policies and procedures at all levels.
- Promote and support personal employee Stop Work Authority.
- Supervising departmental staff and coordinating production operations.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the shop, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Supervise and mentor a team of technicians, machinists, and mechanics.
- Lead and support overhauls, repairs, and maintenance of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, and turbines (steam/gas).
- Oversee and troubleshoot precision manual machining tasks when necessary.
- Capable of developing and implementing a quality control program.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering and field service teams to meet customer specifications and delivery timelines.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize repair, overhaul, and maintenance of rotating equipment and turbine components.
- Manage productivity, troubleshoot issues, and implement process improvements
- Maintain shop equipment, tools, and overall organization.
- Manage inventory, procurement, and job costing processes.
- Maintaining Quality requirements.
- Conduct department training for existing and new operating procedures as needed.
- Maintain and control inventories to control cost.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Clients and with our internal team.
- Knowledge and understanding Lean Manufacturing or similar process knowledge to increase production is a plus.
- Hands-on management style.
- Good understanding of project management and planning.
- Assist the business development team with client presentations and meetings promoting shop services.
- Other related duties as assigned.

- Efficiency
- Gross Margins
- Project Costs
- MRO Expenditures
- On-Time Deliveries
- Shop Profitability
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent work experience in rotating equipment, turbines, or mechanical systems will be considered in lieu of formal education.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience in rotating equipment manufacturing and/or repair.
- Proven background in mechanical repair, assembly, and troubleshooting
- Experience operating or overseeing manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.)
Required Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel).
- Customer oriented and show strong motivational leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Must be able to frequently climb a ladder
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Use repetitive hand motions.
- Prolonged use of the computer.
Equipment Used
- Knowledge of Manual machine tools, precision, and measurement equipment
- Knowledge of rotating equipment types, lifting & handling equipment, and other related tools/software

This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a shop environment.
Pay
$140k-$170k DOE
